C.A.M.P.U.S., the Center for Adventist Ministry to Public University Students is a bold attempt by the Michigan Conference Public Campus Ministries Department to respond to the crucial need of training young people to evangelize public university and college campuses. CAMPUS is currently based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, near the University of Michigan campus.
CAMPUS challenges students to live and share our distinctive Adventist message and lifestyle among their friends. CAMPUS also inspires, trains, and supports youth and young adult groups to be committed to the following ideals:
- Vision: To develop a Bible-based revival movement in which every student is a missionary
- Philosophy: Academic excellence combined with spiritual excellence
- Methodology: Biblical simplicity: “Your success is in your simplicity. As soon as you depart from this… your power is gone.” (2T 608)
- Goal: To double our membership every year
- Watchword: Each one reach one
- Mission: To prepare public campuses for the imminent return of Christ.
Our Objectives:
- To proclaim the Three Angel’s Messages in the academic environment
- To teach Adventist students how to win their friends, faculty, and staff to Christ
- To provide training in the establishment of Adventist fellowships and congregations on major secular campuses
- To assist churches in training and equipping students as soul-winning agents on the public campuses they have chosen to attend
- To instill in program participants a commitment to life-long ministry
Why Ministry on Public Campuses?
- Three times more Adventists attend secular colleges and universities than our denominational institutions.
- There are more than 40 major colleges and universities in Michigan alone-not reached, not evangelized.
- Some campuses have a population equivalent to small cities.
- Many of our young people lose their faith while attending public colleges and universities. However, it has been proven that those who are trained, nurtured, and encouraged, benefit the church with talent, leadership, and a strong commitment to the local congregations they attend.
- Not enough attention and financial support are given to public campus ministry.
- According to Ellen G. White, ministry on public campuses is a work that “must and will be done.” - 3SM 234
